Job Overview

Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Municipal Treasurer is responsible for all Municipal finances, including the carrying out of all statutory requirements under the Municipal Act, 2001, as amended, and all other applicable legislation.  The Treasurer provides policy advice and recommendations to Council to ensure that Council’s actions and Municipal undertakings are in compliance with all applicable laws, standards and guidelines.  This position also provides advice to Council with respect to the utilization of all available revenue sources, including taxation, contributions, grants, subsidies, discounts, and financial incentives of any nature for Municipal programs, projects, or undertakings.  The Treasurer is responsible for the implementation of all financial directives, policies, programs, instructions, and decisions of Council.  The Treasurer maintains responsibility for all operations and maintenance of the Finance Department and internal financial controls, as well as the direction, control and evaluation of the Finance Department staff.

A Professional Accounting designation or equivalent Post-secondary education in the field of Accounting and/or Finance or Public Administration is required for this position.  The CMO designation is a preferred qualification. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Municipal financial context and operating environment is essential.

The ideal candidate should possess five years’ experience as a Municipal Treasurer, or similar function.
