We are currently seeking a professional, creative, highly skilled and experienced individual to assume the challenging and rewarding position of Director, Planning and Development.  The primary responsibilities include directing the Planning and Lands, Development and Inspections Divisions for the City of Yellowknife. This position reports directly to the City Administrator and forms part of the City’s senior leadership team.

Candidates should possess a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and a minimum of ten years of experience in senior management, preferably in a municipal government.   Knowledge of municipal government, including dealing with Councils, Committees and the public and a thorough knowledge of the National Building Code, land-use planning principles and real property law are required.  The successful candidate must also possess a strong leadership presence and have excellent communication skills.  The incumbent is required to exercise a high degree of objectivity, discretion and judgment in decision making and, as such, candidates being interviewed must be able to demonstrate these abilities.
