Reporting to the Chief of Fire and Emergency Services, this is an exciting and challenging opportunity, providingleadership, direction and coordination of the operations and personnel involved in emergency medical and firesuppression activities for the Department. Specific duties include continuously monitoring and evaluatingresponse operations resources to ensure effective response capabilities; ongoing evaluation of emergencymedical and fire suppression protocols and procedures; participating in strategic planning, budgeting andrecruitment, implementing change initiatives, ongoing evaluation of equipment and technology; preparingstandard operating guidelines and department policy; assuming an acting role as Director of EmergencyManagement and participating in an on-call rotation; assuming command at major emergency incidents asdeemed necessary and representing the Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services on regional and provincialcommittees.


The preferred candidate demonstrates an aptitude for problem solving and decision-making, organizing andplanning, and a personal commitment to lead at the senior management level. Strong interpersonal andcommunication skills are critical. Post-secondary education in administration or management is desired.Applicants should have a good knowledge of applicable laws, codes and regulations affecting the performance ofa Fire and EMS Service. A working knowledge of the full Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of FDM softwarewould be beneficial.
