Job Overview

The Town of Petawawa is currently seeking an experienced professional to fulfill the full-time position of Clerk.  Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer the Clerk will execute the statutory and advisory duties of the Clerk as provided for in Provincial Legislation as well as perform a wide variety of functions.  The Clerk provides advice/guidance/interpretation to Council, the public, and various statutory bodies on procedural matters and legislative requirements.  The Clerk is responsible for the provision of Council and Committee secretariat services by attending all Council meetings and accurately recording the minutes of procedures and resulting decisions; preparing and distributing agendas, minutes of meetings and general correspondence arising from these minutes.  The Clerk fulfills the duties of the Returning Officer for municipal elections, and is responsible for all aspects of conducting the municipal election and any by-elections.  The Clerk oversees the By-law Enforcement and Animal Control functions of the municipality.  The Clerk acts as Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act Coordinator; Division Registrar under the Vital Statistics Act and Marriage Act; Secretary for the Petawawa Police Services Board; Lottery Licencing Officer; and alternate Community Emergency Management Coordinator.

Applicants will possess a degree or diploma in Public Administration, Political Science or related discipline; a related mix of education and experience may be considered.  A minimum of five years’ experience in a municipal management position, including significantly demonstrated management experience and understanding of local government and municipal administration; a professional designation of AMCT or CMO; and a Diploma in Municipal Administration or Management are preferred.  Completion of the Basic Emergency Management Course and the Community Emergency Management Coordinator Course are assets.

Compensation is based on qualifications and experience.  The current salary range for this position is $39.76 to $46.78 an hour for a 35 hour work week.  The Town offers an excellent benefits package.
